Flow Cells for Bypass Loops and Slip Streams
We use "flow cell" to mean a non-movable optical sampling device that is installed in a slip stream or bypass loop where liquid or gas samples are diverted from the main process system and through the cell.
Advantages:
- Fixed in position, incuding fiber cables, flow cell and process piping
- Clean port for cleaning optics
- Isolated from the process in the event of a failure
Disadvantages:
- Lag time
- Cost associated with side stream, pumps, etc.
- Samples may require heating for transport
- May not be as representative of a sample as direct insertion
