About Us

Guided Wave specializes in on-line optical measurements for process analytical chemistry. We design complete NIR and UV/VIS instrument systems and sample conditioning systems that are used continuously, on-line, in real-time under the rigors of the manufacturing plant environment.

Our History

In 1983, GWI was recognized as an industry leader when it delivered the first fiber optic-based NIR analyzers. Today GWI is the only process NIR vendor that provides a complete optically matched system, yielding the best throughput efficiency, leading to long-term performance that meets industry requirements and expectations.

Founded in 1983 by David LeFebre in Rancho Cordova, CA to build spectrometers for optical fiber testingDeveloped Probes included the 1/4” Transmission Probe and Wand ProbeIntroduced the Model 200, an improved spectrometer. Shown here monitoring process gases at a Formaldehyde PlantIntroduced the Model 260 - measurements over long distances is now possible and processess that were previously difficult to monitor are now accecessible quickly on-lineDeveloped the Shuttle Probe, zero ejection force probe for live process linesDeveloped the first direct insertion SST Au-brazed window probe where light passes through the liquid sample only once.Introduced the 1-channel InSite and ProSpec analyzers Introduced SpectrON, a complete analyzer package (hardware, software, modeling, & service) for refinery applications. Measuring octane, benzene, cetane and others.Introduced Black Coated Fiber to eliminate stray radiation (patented) Introduced ROSA automatic sample capture systemDeveloped the O-SST probe Invented Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor Monitor for sterilizationRedesigned the SST Probe (patented). The only optical insertion process probe with braze-sealed sapphire windows and no o-rings to replacesDeveloped the Teflon Flow Cell for semiconductor applications Introduced the Model 412 Process Analyzer (lower cost, substantially improved performance, more channels) GWI incorporates and opens European office (BVBA)Developed the G-SST, 50 cm H2O2 Vapor ProbeGWI relocates to meet expansion and growth opportunities moves. Only 25 miles from Sacramento, California International Airport, the new facility is one third larger than the previous location occupied for the last 20 years.GWI acquires Optical Solutions a leading supplier of fiber optic filter photometers for on-line liquid and gas applications. With the addition of Optical Solutions product line to its portfolio, Guided Wave expands its leadership position in process analytical systems. GWI completes license agreement with Bayer Material Science LLC, giving GWI exclusive worldwide rights to manufacture and sell process photometers employing the Bayer technology. Introduced Sample Conditioning System (SCS)Developed the Gas Flow Cell with lengths to 1000 mmGuided Wave Inc is a subsidiary of Advanced Holdings Ltd (“Advanced”). Advanced was started in 1993 to create a niche business by combining its engineering expertise in the supply of process technologies and equipment. GWI celebrates 25 years in business. From the beginning GWI was recognized as an industry leader when it delivered the first optic-based NIR analyzer. Today GWI is the only process NIR vendor that provides a complete optically matched system, yielding the best throughput efficiency, leading to long-term performance at the highest industry standard. GWI acquires Aspectrics, the innovator of Encoded Photometric Infrared and Near Infrared Spectroscopy (EP-IR) analyzers. The acquisition brings together Guided Wave’s world-class process analytical instrumentation and sample interface expertise with Aspectrics’ exceptionally robust mid-infrared gas analyzers. EP-IR is expected to become an important replacement technology for existing FTIR and NDIR systems, and will open up new areas of applications based on cost, size and performance.Developed the second generation O-SST probe.Introduced ClearView db - dual channel, dual beam 6 wavelength Photometer
